National Junior Honor Society

We will induct rising eighth grade students into the program starting in the Spring of 2023.  More information will be shared about the application process later in the Spring.

NJHS members will be meeting the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month (beginning in September) from 4 pm - 5 pm in the Media Center.

Being a member of National Junior Honor Society is a reward for work well-done. It is certainly an honor worth striving for, and it is not too late to work toward the requirements necessary to be a member. To be eligible for induction, candidates must display the qualities of leadership, scholarship, character, citizenship and service.

Scholarship:
A person who demonstrates academic excellence will have:

  • a cumulative academic grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Character: A person who exhibits good character will:
  • consistently demonstrate such personality traits as cheerfulness, friendliness, kindness, and stability.
  • be honest and reliable.
  • show positive behavior and comply with school regulations. (no detentions or suspensions during eighth grade)
  • possess power of concentration and sustained attention as shown by perseverance and application to studies.
  • show courtesy, concern, and respect for others.
  • actively help to rid the school of bad influences or poor environment.
Leadership: A person who is a good leader will:
  • participate in class and school activities.
  • be responsible in any position which he/she holds.
  • be able to follow as well as lead.
  • inspire positive behavior in others.
  • demonstrate academic initiative.
Citizenship: A person who is a good citizen will:
  • meet his/her responsibilities to teachers and school.
  • show respect and pride for learning, education, and Avalon Middle School.
Service: A person who demonstrates good service will:
  • render service to his/her school by volunteering 25 hours of community service.
  • serve in any worthwhile class activities.
  • work well with others.
  • participate in school initiatives.
