Good afternoon, Husky Families!

I cannot believe we are already three weeks into the school year! Our students are doing a phenomenal job adjusting to their routines, following campus rules, and showing great respect to our teachers and staff.

Over the last few weeks, my personal goal has been to connect with our students and learn their names. With 800 incredible students on campus, it is quite a list to memorize—but I am making great progress and love getting to know them more each day!

This week we will test Math PM1 on Tuesday. Students will have a modified schedule below.

Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, has a fully charged laptop, eats a healthy breakfast and arrives to school on time.

We are raising funds to support the Avalon Middle School Athletic Programs and create a stronger, more connected school community for all AMS students!

Your donations directly support our athletes by helping provide essential equipment, facility/field improvements, athletic training supplies, celebrations/awards, and much more. But the impact goes beyond our athletes. We are investing in the overall student experience at Avalon Middle School—a strong athletic program builds school spirit, teamwork, leadership, school pride, and a stronger sense of community for everyone.

Every donation, big or small, helps us create better opportunities and memorable experiences for our entire Husky family.

Ready to build, design, and create? The PLTW (Project Lead The Way) Club is kicking off the school year with hands-on STEM activities, including rocketry, robotics, 3D printing, CAD, and more!

Important Note for Parents & Students: A signed parental consent form is required for students to participate in club activities. Consent forms will be passed out during the first meeting, so come by to pick one up!

Dress Rehearsal for Jr. Thespians’ Winter Showcase is November 2 from 4-6 in the cafeteria.

Jr. Thespians District Festival is Saturday, November 7th at University High School.

This past Friday OCPS asked us to wear pink to Celebrate Dolly Parton and her Imagination Library by filling our schools with pink and the joy of reading! Wear pink, read a book, and Share Kindness! If you missed it, we will announce for our school to do it again. We will plan another day of Pink and Pages on 9/25 (a true day for Dolly) to read a book, share kindness and wear pink!

Reminder: E-Scooters and E-Bikes will not be allowed to be used a mode of transportation to and from school. Families have until September 8th to transition to a new mode of transportation for their student.

 

If your school students ride a Bike to school, please take time to review safety procedures with them and ensure they understand the rules and regulations that apply. Safe riding practices help protect not only your student but also others on the road and sidewalks.

Safety Reminders for Families:

• Helmets are strongly encouraged (and required by law for riders under 16).

• Riders should obey all traffic signals and posted signs. 

• Riders should dismount their Bike before crossing a crosswalk.

• Night riding requires lights and reflective gear for visibility.

 

Please ensure that your student locks their transportation appropriately in the designated bike rack. OCPS is not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to devices brought onto its property.

All OCPS students will eat for “No Charge” in schools this year. Our “Breakfast Grab n Go” will be available daily at the bus loop and in the courtyard. Lunch will be available in our beautiful café to all students. We will also be selling many a la carte items that can be paid for with cash, check, or credit card through School Pay. Any additional money will go directly into the student's account for future purchases.

Any student requiring a special diet due to allergies/special needs, please complete the "Special Diet Order" form. Once approved by our FNS Nutritionist, we will be able to prepare meals. All special diet breakfast and lunch meals will be served on the line with the yellow dangler. Look for the cashier wearing a “Yellow Apron".
