April 26, 2026

Principal Mendez's Message

Dear Husky Families,

Congratulations to our Track Teams who came in 3rd overall with combined scores. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication. Our Administrative Assistants are true rock stars! We are deeply grateful for the daily support of Ms. Craft, Mrs. Lopez, Ms. McGivney, Ms. Melendez, Mr. Moreno, Ms. Nidhan, and Mr. Thompson—thank you for all that you do for our school community.

We are grateful to all of our families who attended the NJHS Induction on April 22. What a beautiful celebration of student leadership! We are so thankful for Mr. Lombardi and Board Member Gallo for their support.

The FAST ELA test will be conducted on May 5 and the FAST Math as well as Algebra and Geometry EOC will be conducted on May 7. It is very important that your student arrive to school on both days with a fully charged computer. We will operate on a modified schedule on both days.

Attention Parents of Rising 7th Graders: Students entering 7th grade are required to submit proof of Tdap immunization and may not be able to begin school without it. Please submit the completed immunization form to Registrar Lopez by dropping it off in the front office or emailing it to Carolina.lopez@ocps.net.

Parents of 8th graders: GRADVENTURE is on Friday, May 15th. The requirements to attend include: no level 3 or level 4 referrals, at least a 2.0 grade point average, no more than 10 unexcused absences, and no Edgenuity.

Evening of Excellence Information

Evening of Excellence is on May 19, 2026 celebrating students’ outstanding academic accomplishments, honoring their hard work, commitment, and dedication to success.
Academic Excellence Award: Students who earned all A’s during the first three marking periods of the current school year.
Academic Achievement Award: Students who earned a combination of A’s and B’s during the first three marking periods of the current school year.
Pride of the Pack (8th only): A prestigious award for 8th graders demonstrating sustained academic excellence, requiring final A grades in all 6th and 7th grade classes, and all A’s (weighted for honors) in every 8th grade quarter; note that Quarter 4 is not included since the ceremony occurs before final grades are available.

Notes:  Virtual core classes (including required reading) do count for Evening of Excellence. HS classes count only if they are core academic (e.g., Algebra II counts; electives like Italian do not). Additional electives taken outside Avalon (e.g., FLVS electives) do not count. All quarter grades must be available; missing grades (e.g., no Q1) make a student ineligible.
