Principal Mendez's Message

Dear Husky Families,

Mrs. Fadia and Mrs. Pfaff proudly commend all 7th and 8th grade Honors students for their participation in the ExploraVision STEM Competition, where students showcased creativity, imagination, and leadership while envisioning scientific breakthroughs for a brighter future. Congratulations to the students who earned Honorable Mention, placing them in the top 10% in the USA and Canada—an outstanding achievement!

Tdap Requirement: FL law requires all students entering 7th grade to have a Tdap booster on file before the first day of school. Please submit the completed immunization form to Registrar Lopez by either dropping it off in the front office or emailing it to: carolina.lopez@ocps.net

8th grade parents: GRADVENTURE is on Friday, May 15th. The requirements to attend include:
1.      No level 3 or level 4 referrals.
2.      Students need to have at least a 2.0 grade point average or higher.
3.      No more than 10 unexcused absences.
4.      No Edgenuity.
Please contact our deans if you have any questions.
Please review the information for 8th graders from our Registrar, Ms. Carolina Lopez.
Thank you for your support!

Evening of Excellence Information

Purpose & Date: The Evening of Excellence on May 19, 2026 celebrates students’ outstanding academic accomplishments, honoring their hard work, commitment, and dedication to success.
Academic Excellence Award: Given to students who earned all A’s during the first three marking periods of the current school year.
Academic Achievement Award: Given to students who earned a combination of A’s and B’s during the first three marking periods of the current school year.
Pride of the Pack (8th only): A prestigious award for 8th graders demonstrating sustained academic excellence, requiring final A grades in all 6th and 7th grade classes, and all A’s (weighted for honors) in every 8th grade quarter; note that Quarter 4 is not included since the ceremony occurs before final grades are available.

Notes:  Virtual core classes (including required reading) do count for Evening of Excellence. HS classes count only if they are core academic (e.g., Algebra II counts; electives like Italian do not). Additional electives taken outside Avalon (e.g., FLVS electives) do not count. All quarter grades must be available; missing grades (e.g., no Q1) make a student ineligible.
