Memory Books

Last year's yearbooks have finally arrived; however, they will not be distributed for another few weeks.  Our focus for the next few weeks is on making certain that we have appropriate support systems in place so that our LaunchED@Home students are able to fully engage in their lessons and that we have safety procedures ready for our Face-to-Face model students when they arrive on the 21st.  We understand that you are eager to receive the yearbooks.  Please be assured that we will get them out to you as quickly as possible.  Our plan is to have a drive through pick up during which you can pick up yearbooks for your child as well as any other supplemental materials such as workbooks that they will need for the school year.  We will announce this date and our procedures within the next two weeks.  Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Student Devices

If your child is withdrawing to attend another OCPS school or another county/state, please set an appointment to return their device to AMS prior to the completion of the withdrawal process.

If your child's device needs to be repaired or replaced, please complete the process at your child's 2020-2021 school site. Students can begin the process by creating a ticket at http://studenttechrequest.ocps.net. The ticket will go to your child's 2020-21 school site.

Parent Consent Forms

Orange County Public Schools respects that families have the right to make educational decisions for their child.  The Parent Technology Media Information Consent Form must be completed annually for all students.  This form provides parents/guardians the opportunity to:

-acknowledge acceptable and responsible uses of student technology,
-give consent for the district to use your student's photo and/or video and,
-give consent for the release of student directory information.

6th graders completed this form during device checkout.  Parents of 6th graders who have not yet received devices and parents of 7th and 8th grade students can access the Parent Technology Media Information Consent Form on the homepage of our website (under school hours).  Once you have completed the forms, please email them to [email protected].  You will receive a confirmation response from our staff once they have been received. If you are having problems accessing the forms, please email Michelle Anderson at [email protected].

Tech Support

Teachers will be sharing information about how students can troubleshoot technical issues.  We also have created a troubleshooting document for your reference that can be found under the Student /Digital Information tab on our school website.

We will be providing phone support to students from 9:30 until the end of the school day each day for LaunchEd@Home students who are having difficulties.  If your child goes through the troubleshooting guide and is still unable to fix the problem, then have them call the school (407-207-7839) and then enter ext. 5302221 to request assistance.  If your child’s laptop is broken or not working at all, then you will need to call the main office to schedule an appointment for assistance or you can put in a student tech request.  The tech request icon is located on your student’s Launchpad dashboard.

Sports Physical

If your child plans on trying out for soccer, volleyball, basketball, or track next year, then a complete Annual Sports Physical is required every year. All students participating in a sport at AMS must complete a satisfactory medical examination during each academic school year in which they plan to participate. The packet for the 2020-21 school year is now available. The physical is good for one entire school year, so we recommend that you get it completed over the summer and turn it in early to the front office. Specific tryout dates and sports' schedules will be available on the AMS website later this summer.

Fall Athletics

Middle school athletics are delayed until January of 2021.  The plan right now is to do two sports in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter.  We have not received a schedule for sports at this time.  Please continue checking our school website for updated information. We also want to let parents and families know that if a student participates in OCPS LaunchEd@Home or Orange County Virtual School, they can still participate in athletics and activities at their assigned school. We thank you for your support during these difficult and challenging times.

Immunizations

OCPS parents of rising 7th grade students,
The state of Florida requires that all students entering 7th grade must have the Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) immunization. Your child MUST have this immunization in order to start the 7th grade. For more information, visit the Florida Department of Health in Orange County site.

AMS Summer Reading

Let’s have a GREAT summer of reading!

This year’s challenge will be to read 7 books total.

You may choose a book of your choice from any genre…realistic fiction, action and adventure, fantasy, mystery, etc. (4 books).

In addition to these selections, we are requesting that you read at least 3 of the Sunshine State Books.

Since schools will not be open to students during the summer, students can keep track of their titles read and then will be able to take AR quizzes on those titles during the first two week of school. Students can also track their minutes and books using Beanstack through Launchpad using the challenge “OCPS Summer Reading 2020-AMS”. First place prize for the OCPS Beanstack challenge is a Kindle!

Students that complete at least 5 books, will be invited to the summer reading ice cream social during the 1st nine weeks of school. Students that complete the entire challenge (7 books) will receive a special prize as well! Questions? Please email Shana Wax [email protected] or Amy Brett [email protected]

Keep Reading Huskies!

Grab and Go Meals

Grab and Go breakfast and lunch will be available to all students through curbside pickup in the bus loop from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10th.  On August 10th, you will receive six meals; beginning the week of the 17th, five meals will be distributed on Mondays.  Please have a piece of paper with your child’s name and ID number written in large letters ready to show our cafeteria personnel in order to limit contact.

Parents, please make sure that you have money in your SchoolPay account as cash will not be accepted for meal pickup.  Students who receive free lunch will not be charged.  Please make sure that you have updated your application.
